STILL & SPARKLING by NENDO FOR LASVIT AT BELGRADE DESIGN WEEK
The collection, entitled Still & Sparkling by Nendo for Lasvit, summarises Nendo’s experimental approach for the creation of all its projects and the dualism between research and experimentation of its approach to design: a mixture of elegant lightness and minimalism for unique items featuring an evocative and delicate appeal. The exhibition’s five concepts – each investigating a different and personal approach to glass – have been carried out thanks to the ability of the Lasvit team in Nový Bor in the Czech Republic. Thanks to the kind support of the Japan Foundation, this fantastic exhibition will be in Belgrade for the Belgrade Design Week.
Projects on exhibit during the Belgrade Design Week include: Inhale lamp, made with the glass blowing process to create big air-bubbles, the form comes from the act of exhaling, it is created by negative air pressure; Press lamp, cylindrical swing lamps and free-standing lamps twisted at the light bulb’s entrance; Growing vases, a playful project which comprises glass-blowing pipes.
Nendo studio, founded by Oki Sato in Tokyo in 2002, is one of the most significant protagonists of Japanese design, collaborating with the most prestigious International companies. Nendo’s production – the word in Japanese meaning clay, particularly the one used by children to play with – features the purity, lightness and linearity of the shape, finding in glass its poetic climax.
With regards to Still & Sparkling by Nendo for Lasvit, Oki Sato states: “I love testing. Working with glass is like working with water, you can never totally control this material and therefore this translates into research, attempts and risk-taking. All this is extremely stimulating for me as it always leads to new surprises in the results and with glass you have the chance to obtain unique and matchless pieces”.
With Still & Sparkling by Nendo for Lasvit, Lasvit’s collaboration projects balancing art and design through superior partnerships, continues. Leon Jakimic, Founder and President of Lasvit, states: “Lasvit and Oki Sato, one of the biggest young design stars, have been collaborating for several years and we have managed to create unique and never-seen-before art pieces. Oki has discovered glass as a material with Lasvit. Together with the glassblowers Oki wonderfully reincarnates glass into his typically minimalistic design. After a great succes with the Growing Vases installation at Milan Design Week in 2011 and the limited collection for Paris´ Carpenters Workshop Gallery we came with Oki Sato of Nendo to Milan again in 2012 and 2013 with the new collections.”
