With its unique symbiosis of storytelling, narrative architecture and collage principles, Studio Aisslinger counts among the trend-setters in „spatial design“. Additionally, however, it is also pursuing new paradigms to guide the design practice; „experience architecture“ and „instagramable spaces“ have become conceptual centerpieces to the design projects.

The works of the designer Werner Aisslinger born 1964 cover the spectrum of experimental, artistic approaches, including industrial design and architecture. He delights in making use of the latest technologies and has helped introduce new materials and techniq ues to the world of product design like in his uniquegel furniture with the collection“soft cell“ and the chaise „soft“ for zanotta in 2000. The „Juli chair (cappellini)“ was the first item of furniture to use a new type of foam called „polyurethane integral foam“ and became the first German chair design to be selected as a permanent exhibit at the MoMA in New York since 1964. In the process he has created striking designs and received awards from all over the world — from Milan’s Compasso d’Oro to the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Red Dot Award or FX Award in the UK. Werner Aisslinger´s „loftcube“–project became one of the most discussed modular and transportable housing projects within the last years.

His work is exhibited in the permanent collections of international museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the French Fonds National d´Art Contemporain in Paris, the Museum Neue Sammlung in Munich, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil, Germany.

Recent work includes a number of furniture design projects for Vitra, Foscarini, and Moroso, product designs for Haier and Canon as well as the 25hours Hotels (Berlin, 2014, Zürich 2017 and Cologne 2018). In 2013 Werner Aisslinger opened his first soloshow called „Home of the future“ in the Berlin based Museum „Haus am Waldsee“. In 2014 he was awarded the prestigious AW Designer of the Year Award in Cologne. In 2017 he opened his exhibition „House of wonders “ in the Museum Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.

Werner Aisslinger has been developing furniture with Italian brands like Cappellini, Zanotta, Magis and Porro or office furniture with Vitra in Switzerland. He works on product designs and architectural projects with brands like Interlübke, Mercedes-Benz, Adidas, IC-Berlin, Marc´o Polo, Bombay Saphire, FSB, Thonet, Flötotto, Berker, Hugo Boss, Younicos i.e.

It was great for xarchitekten to be invited to BDW as Austrian Architects We were expecting a great time by experiencing all this different thinking’s on design issues. At first there was the road movie from Vienna to Belgrade: 600 Kilometers of flat land, an immense impression of wideness - like riding on a green ocean. Arriving Belgrade we were hosted by the perfect Organization and accompanied by very nice people of BDW. The most valuable element of BDW´s Performing, Discussing, Lecturing in the Theater, Visiting the Clubs and Restaurants of Belgrade has been the linking excellent thinking and facing experts coming from different fields of design as well as different regions of Europe. xarchitekten are convinced about the great role of BDW as an Place for multidisciplinary Evolution, therefore BDW is facing a great future. Hopefully xarchitekten will be connected to BDW again.
