Robert Klanten is the Founder and CEO of gestalten. The German publishing house is known globally for its books about contemporary creative culture, the majority of which are conceived in house. They document and anticipate vital movements in design, lifestyle, illustration, architecture, fashion, photography, travel, and art. Providing both inspiration and practical value, they explore new creative fields in ways not yet seen before.

Gestalten continues to actively reimagine the way in which it approach publishing. With the extensive range of titles, gestalten not only seeks to enhance and to enrich the reader’s lives, but to continually engage with the surrounding creative landscape.

Gestalten’s origin story began with a focus on the aesthetic, particularly that of graphic design and, over the last two decades, the scope of both the content and the expertise has widened. Today, using a myriad of observations of culture, people, art, and other intimate, inspirational informants, gestalten documents and anticipates vital movements in architecture, visual culture, design & fashion, escapism, food & beverages, travel, and contemporary art. In 2014, Little Gestalten joined the literary ranks and ensured that there was a place for readers of all ages within the world of gestalten.

The gestalten narrative exists beyond the textual realm; regardless of the medium at hand, gestalten wishes to inform and inspire our community.

Belgrade Design Week is a one-off – a unique set-up that is free from the corporate atmosphere that so often pervades other such events. The energy, optimism and warmth of Jovan and his team flows through every event – lectures, workshops, meals & drinks alike!   I’ve never been good at sitting in a dark lecture hall for more than an hour or so at a time but found myself doing three lectures back to back at Belgrade – such was the quality of speakers. Timetabling was crazy at times but at BDW everybody seems happy to ‘go with the flow’ – and has an even better time for doing so. The City of Belgrade should be very proud of this gem!
