It changed me, I encountered new ideas that I will live for the rest of my life. The event marked a moment in history when many people in woke up to a bigger and more inclusive world. We were all rewarded for our efforts, style and glamour graced an experience that was food for our souls. I returned to Belgrade many times to feel the pulse of its rugged heart. Cheers.

Miles Newlyn graduated from St Martins College of Art, London, in 1991. He first released Missionary, Sabbath Black, and Democratica through Emigré, and then designed a set of six keynote typefaces for David Carson.

Newlyn quickly appropriated many of his ideas to the corporate sector, branding in particular. After some some years working with London agencies, and Wolff Olins in particular, he developed a style termed ‘white occult’, a blend of meta-organic forms and hi-tech typography. Newlyn continues to explore and expand this vision, and utilizes the results for clients worldwide.

Belgrade design week is a unique, inspiring and one-off design event in this significant geopolitical area. It is the only platform that is really working toward a positive change in the sense of perception and understandings of design profession in countries that formed ex Yugoslavia. I was honored that I was a part of such a beautiful and emotional event.
