Idis Turato was born in 1965 in Rijeka. He graduated at the Zagreb Faculty of Architecture. In 1992 he opened Randic Turato studio together with Sasa Randic. In 2009 he established his own office: Architecture studio Turato d.o.o. He lives and works in Rijeka. He teaches architecture at FGAG in Split and is a guest lecturer at Zagreb Faculty of Architecture. He received a number of architecture awards: “Viktor Kovacic” (in 2003, for extension to the building of the Faculty of Engineering in Rijeka, in 2008 for the Great Hall of Pope John Paul II in Trsat, and in 2009 for the kintergarten Katarina Frankopan on Krk island), “Vladimir Nazor” and “Piranesi Award” in 2005 for Fran Krsto Frankopan elementary school on Krk island and “Drago Galic” in 2012 for Nest and Cave House in Volosko. He represented Croatia at the Venice Biennale in 2006 with his project “In Between” and in 2010 with the project “Pavillion”. For the past two and a half years he has been writing an inspirational weekly column on spatial design on his blog.
